Meet Samsung’s First Android Device With Iris Recognition Security

While most people thought Samsung would introduce iris recognition security to it’s 2016 flagship android devices; Galaxy S7 and S7 edge, that didn’t come to limelight.



Trust Samsung with it’s innovative cap, the company has finally launched it’s first android device to feature iris scanner security; the Galaxy Tab Iris which clearly proves that it won’t be long before Iris Recognition scanner becomes available on other products.



For those who don’t know, Iris recognition or Iris scanner (whichever name rocks your boat), is an automated method of bio-metric identification that uses mathematical pattern-recognition techniques on video images of one or both the irises of an individual’s eyes, whose complex random patterns are unique, stable, and can be seen from some distance – Source: Wikipedia.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab Iris apparently sports a mid-range device based on specs, however, it’s iris security system sets it apart. The tablet was produced by Samsung India as part of Government’s ‘make for Indian’ program. According to Samsung, it’s ‘advanced iris recognition technology’ will solve the hassle of having to use separate devices for bio-metric identification, and envisions making services like income tax filing, property registration, passenger verification as well as passport renewal virtually paperless.



Looking at the specs of the Samsung Tab Iris, the device features a 7-inch 600 × 1024 resolution display, powered by a 1.2GHz quad-core processor, 1.5GB RAM, 8GB internal storage which can be expanded using SD cards, 5 megapixels auto-focus rear camera and is priced around $199. Going by the specs, it is okay to consider the device as more of a utility device than a performance device.

Who knows, maybe Samsung might incorporate the Iris recognition security system on the upcoming Galaxy Note 6. Just maybe!
