Nigeria’s power generation collapsed completely on Thursday at exactly 12.50pm to zero megawatt. Data from the country’s System Operator indicated The data remained 0MW for about 3 hours as no power generation company in Nigeria produced a single megawatt of electricity. The System Operator stated that the 11 distribution companies got zero electricity load allocation during the period of the collapse, meaning that for about three hours on Thursday no part of Nigeria got power supply from the national grid. Electricity supply was later at about 3pm. Epileptic power supply has persisted in many parts of the country, forcing citizens to source for alternative source of energy. However, the situation worsened since fuel which is considered the alternative is scarce as many spend hours in filing stations queuing to get fuel. The detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Mr. Nnamdi Kanu, has urged the British Government to intervene in his case by asking President Muhammadu Buhari to release him from prison. A Nigerian has died after allegedly being pushed from the balcony of his rented third floor apartment in west Delhi’d Tilak Nagar area on Tuesday, March 29. According to the police, the 25-year-old deceased identified as Best, lived in the apartment with a woman, who told police that a group of seven Nigerian men came to their residence on Tuesday night. “She said the group got into an argument with Best and pushed him off the balcony. She also identified a person in the group,” the officer added. The three Pastors abducted along Kaduna-Abuja highway last week Monday have been released by their abductors, according to a report by Daily Trust. The Nigerian Meteorological Agency has issued a serious warning to Nigerians to brace up to face meaner days of heat. With the global average air temperature of the earth hitting 1°C hotter than it was at the start of the twentieth century, the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NIMET) has warned Nigerians to brace up for more hot days, warm nights and heat waves. President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday explained why he would not hurriedly assent to the 2016 passed by the National Assembly. He said he would critically review the document before assenting to it, according to a statement by Femi Adesina the special adviser to the President on media and publicity. Nigeria’s Minister of Power Works and Housing, Mr Babatunde Fashola, says there is currently not enough power to distribute unless more turbines are switched on. He attributed recent power outages in some parts of the country to four turbines which stopped working, but hoped electricity supply would be stabilized soon as three of the four turbines have been restored. The Minister also expressed hope that President Muhammadu Buhari’s 10,000 megawatts target would be met. The Lagos State Ministry of Education has disbursed special local scholarships worth N23,480,000 to 60 blind students and 366 others. The Special Adviser to the Lagos State Governor on Education, Mr Obafela Bank-Olemoh presented the recipients with their cheques in his office with support from Mrs Omautan Jegede, the Director, Lagos State Scholarship Board (LSSB). Reports noted that the blind students from the School of the Blind, Oshodi, got N3,000,000; 34 sportsmen who have won for Lagos in sporting events, got N6, 880,000, after providing evidence of admission into tertiary institutions; and 332 students of the Lagos State College of Health Technology, Yaba, were given N13,600,000. In his speech, while thanking the government, the Principal of the school, Mr Shola Ogunsiji, said the scholarship would go a long way to help the school educate and rehabilitate the students, some of whom became blind as a result of accidents or illnesses. Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State has said that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is the only political party that fulfils campaign promises in the country. He made this assertion during an inspection tour of ongoing road projects in the State on Wednesday. “Continue to support his administration and the PDP. An Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court on Thursday remanded a 24-year-old man, Savior Edith to Kirikiri Prison for allegedly defiling his neighbour’s three-year-old daughter. The prosecutor, Insp. Benedict Aigbokhan told the court that the accused, who lives at 19, Ishajimi St., Agege, a suburb of Lagos, defiled the girl on March 23. “The accused called the girl inside his room and defiled her, it was her cry that alerted her mother and the accused was apprehended,” the prosecutor said. He said that the offence contravened Section 137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011. The accused, however, pleaded not guilty. The Chief Magistrate, Mr Tajudeen Elias, ordered that the accused be remanded till April 20 pending determination of his bail application.
